Watercolors

Well this week I decided to invest in a toy. A scanner. A nice scanner. Now I can scan watercolors and they look nice, because of this nice investment.

It's been a while since I've been on this blog!

Well, I sold a piece of art at Duluth Coffee Company last week. So here is a replacement I whipped up this evening. This window frame, I grabbed out the the sauna rafters yesterday at grandmas.  You got to do what you got to do. . .

BFA Project and Transfers Again

This final project has been more difficult then I could have ever imagined.  If I could have seen this back in January when I was digging through sheds at home looking for window frames to save me money, I would have not brought them with me. Last saturday I removed the sides and started again. The final piece is much thinner, and there is no tree. However I do think that the cheesecloth tells the viewer in a clearer way of what I am trying to say. The top is not done. That will be this weekend... looks like it's time to build a roof!

Oh look! The beginning of more transfers - -

SPE_Baltimore

There are a lot of little stories that have been collected on this trip but I think the best one happened last night at a diner when Sasha and I were roaming the tourist streets for a bite to eat. I don't like dark restaurants or places that are filled with noise. Not my kind of place to enjoy supper. So we spend nearly an good part of an hour finding something that would fit my picky needs

But  as we were sitting in a dungy aged looking diner with thick greasy smoke in the air, I began to take back all my pickiness of that prior hour. This might have been a poor choice as well. Sure it was empty and you didn't have to stand in line to get a seat, but something didn't sit right. I sat slowly eating my soup and looking around, making comments at Sasha who for once didn't seem to be bouncing off the walls with pure excitement. Yes it was a tiring week for sure. "I don't know about this soup.. it's kind of sludgy you know." "This diner looks like the Titanic..."

Then as I was about to finish, I looked down on the floor and spotted a mouse scurrying under one of the tables. All the color left my face.  As I stared at where it had gone.
"There's a mouse!" Sasha, who was one the phone with her mother, didn't seem to take my comment too seriously so I directed my concern to one of the employees near by. "There's a mouse!" The tall worker didn't seem all that concerned as well. "Oh yeah, der everywhere." He said confidently. "There's been construction up in the rafters and de's dropping from the ceiling." what the... I began to laugh and laugh. And we promptly got up and retired back to the convention.

Etching Project

Family is so important to me. I am reminded everyday how more and more like my mother and father I am becoming through my actions, personality, and train of thought. I am seeing my growth as a metaphor in the shape of roots. My roots may not be visible to passerby’s standing on top of them or walking around then, but they are growing longer and deeper as time ages me, entwining around my inherited patterned DNA.  The image I conveyed is a tree reflecting it roots in systematic ways. The decorative lines framing the tree are used just like a frame on a family mantel reminds you and I of those we are close with.
My etching reflects family ties in a more general way. Nobody can relate to the relationship between my parents and I, but they can relate to how they themselves grew up and inherited family traits. The use of etching is very appropriate for my concept. An etching cannot be erased or smudged over.  When finished it is much like an irreproducible artistic blue print. The image of the tree is simple and the idea is simple, reflecting my personality. There’s no hidden meaning besides what is quietly stated.

(Dude, anybody want one? I got about 500 rejects).
